Energy Assistance
The Energy Assistance program helps low-income residents of Savannah/Chatham County with meeting the extreme cost of their energy bill. The one-time payment helps to defray the high cost of energy, especially for clients 65 years and older whose grant is matched by the Public Service Commission.
The Energy Assistance program provided Cooling Assistance services for 298 households in 2006, and 821 households in 2007. Heating Assistance services were provided by the program to 3,542 households in 2006, and 2,782 households in 2007.
The program also signed up 580 households in 2006 with SCANA as the regulated gas marketer. In 2007, 376 households were signed up by EOA for SCANA.
