Crisis Intervention
EOA partners with agencies in the Savannah-Chatham County area to assist clients with emergency crisis situations. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina the storm of the decade hit New Orleans, Louisiana with deadly force and destruction. Katrina flooded 80% of the city and killed more than 1,300 people. About 80,000 homes in Orleans Parish were damaged, and some remain that way. The storm was devastating and destroyed largely poor and working-class neighborhoods. The Georgia Department of Human Resources, American Red Cross and the local EOA responded with short notice by assisting residents with referrals, employment, shelter, food, and other services offered by Community Action Programs.
